U-Pick CSA

Want to add fresh flavor to your table while also exactly where your food was sourced? With East Lynn Farm’s U-Pick CSA program, you can do just that!

For 8 weeks from approximately July through end of August (actual start date will depend on weather), CSA members can come out to East Lynn Farm in Round Hill, Virginia on specified weekdays and evenings to pick their own shares from our large produce garden.

In addition to the U-Pick aspect of our CSA, which ensures you take what you need and reduces waste, East Lynn Farm’s CSA is unique sheerly due to the breadth of products; both produced on our farm and locally-sourced, included in CSA membership.

Here at East Lynn, we also commit to sustainable farming practices – we do not use any synthetic, non-organic herbicides or pesticides, and we fertilize our growing fields only with compost made from organic matter (e.g., leaves, straw, hay, spent vegetables and flowers) combined with aged manure from our livestock.

Finally, each week, we survey our fields and harvest the crops at their peak flavor and freshness to ensure you’re getting the best produce on our farm.

Are you ready to bring fresh farm flavors straight to your fork, all while making memories and enjoying the great outdoors in the process? Join us for our U-Pick CSA by registering below!

U-Pick CSA Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How is your farm’s produce grown?

A: All produce (including flowers) from our farm is sustainably grown with little or no use of any non-organic fertilizers, herbicides and/or pesticides.

Q: Do the eggs that are in the CSA Program come from cage-free hens?

A: Yes, our chickens are 100 percent pasture-raised. They spend the day outdoors foraging for their food, dust bathing and getting exercise. At night, they come home to roost in a large moveable “chicken tractor” where they are safe from predators.

Q: I am planning a party and would like extra or a certain type of produce one week. How can I arrange that?

A: No problem! As a U-Pick CSA Member, you will be entitled to purchase extra bushels of the produce you desire.  The price of the extra bushel will depend on the type of produce you select and it’s availability.

Q: What happens if I miss collecting my U-Pick CSA share?

A: If you are unable to pick your U-Pick CSA share, you will be allowed to pick an extra share the following week.

U-Pick CSA Terms

East Lynn Farm wishes to provide you, the U-Pick CSA member, with fresh, local, seasonal food representing a portion of our harvest. Please read our shared commitments to that relationship detailed below.

Becoming a Part of Our Farm

Our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program establishes a relationship between East Lynn Farm and you as our customer. Rather than simply purchasing food, our customers become “members” of this CSA who receive a portion of the Farm’s harvest. Our CSA Program runs for 8 weeks, from approximately July through the end of August (with the actual start and completion dates dependent upon weather and growing conditions). Members are responsible for picking their share of fresh produce from our Farm each week. Detailed information regarding pick-up is described below.

Our Growing Practices

We are committed to sustainable farming and do our best not to use any synthetic, non-organic herbicides or pesticides. As part of our sustainable farming practices, we fertilize our growing fields only with compost from organic matter (e.g., leaves, straw, hay, spent vegetables and flowers) combined with aged manure from our livestock.  We also source from other local farms to supplement our CSA offerings, as needed.  We are happy to tell you more about our growing practices, just ask!

Our Shared Commitments

Sharing in the Risk of Crop Failure

We strive to provide you with a bountiful share each week. Despite our best efforts, the quantity and quality of farm produce and products will vary from week-to-week, month-to-month, and season-to-season due to weather, infestation, or other factors beyond our control. By joining our CSA, you are agreeing to share these risks with us and with other members. In the unlikely event of a crop failure, our procedure is as follows: If only a small portion of crops fail, we compensate for the failed crops by filling your share with other crops grown on the farm that

In the unlikely event of a crop failure, our procedure is as follows: If only a small portion of crops fail, we compensate for the failed crops by filling your share with other crops grown on the farm that are ready for harvest at that time. We may also cover for a crop loss by buying in bulk from other local farmers. This may not be a feasible option for all crops because of cost or widespread failure, such as drought or excessive heat.

Picking  Shares

You are responsible for picking your share at the Farm.

Member Fees

By selling CSA memberships in advance of the growing season, we are able to plow these proceeds into seed purchases, irrigation, planting, equipment and other up-front costs to our Farms.

No Refunds

You may terminate your participation in our CSA program at any time but we do not provide refunds for any unused portions of your CSA shares. However, your share is fully transferable, so if you find that you are unable to use your share for any reason, you may transfer it to another party. This can be done on select weeks designated by you or for the duration of the program.
